This is the definition of the hardware and software requirements for computers which are to run HELIOS Orange. The following configurations are the basic recommendation, i.e. the minimum required to install and operate the SQL server and HELIOS Orange. The requirements are only given with a view to the type of the operating system, the MS SQL database server and HELIOS Orange. No account is taken of additional applications that run on the station or server (other than MS Office), which inrease the hardware requirements. No account is taken either of the size of the HELIOS Orange database (this must be assed individually), which may increase hardware requirements substantially, esp. the operating memory (to run an MS SQL server, Microsoft recomends a memory size identical to the size of the database(s)).

Note: The recommended number and performance of processors depends on the number of the IS users. The recommended operating memory depends mostly on the number and size of the DB IS – where the rule is to keep the ratio of the DB size to the server operating memory as low as possible. The choice of the version of the operating memory (32 bit vs. 64 bit, Standard x, Enterprise) depends on the number of processors and operating memory size. If there are more than 10 users of the IS and the DB IS is greater than 5GB, we recommend you consult Asseco Solutions, a.s. on the configuration

• Data line with a ping response < 150ms, with zero packet loss during transmission.
• We recommend using a landline or a wireless connection in a licensed frequency spectrum.
• If you are using an asymmetric connection or one that aggregates traffic (e.g. ADSL) – we recommend you test the line bandwidth and quality.

Graphic Interface

The minimum graphic interface is 1024 × 768, 16 bits.

HW Recommendation

• we recommend you use brand-name hardware (IBM, DELL, HP, Lenovo, etc.) with the option to purchase an extended warranty – on-site repairs, possibly a guaranteed deadline for starting the hardware fixes and/or a guaranteed deadline for the HW problems to be fixed.

The installation and operation of MSSQL Server 2008 EXPRESS requires

The installation and operation of MSSQL Server 2008/2008R2 EXPRESS requires

Microsoft Office

The HELIOS systems communicate with the MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). These are the compatible versions:

• MS Office 2010 (x86)

Please keep in mind that HELIOS only works with the 32-bit version of MS Office. The support for the 64-bit version of MS Office is only partial now and we recommend you consult Asseco Solutions, a.s..

Network Configuration

• It is necessary to check and perhaps modify the network configuration on the server and all the computers which will be running HELIOS Orange. The SQL server cannot be installed or operated, and the HELIOS Orange system launched, without the proper network settings.
• The network environment has to be configured also on computers which are not hooked up to the network and which will be running HELIOS Orange locally.
• Network adapter – you should install it even if no network adapter (card) is physically present in the computer and it is not hooked to a network. It is appropriate to use the Microsoft Loopback Adapter in that case.
• Network client – for the SQL server to work correctly, the Client for Microsoft Networks must be installed. Of course, other types of clients can be on the computer in addition if they are necessary for other applications.
• Network protocol – TCP/IP. Other network protocols can be installed on the computer in addition to this one.
• Some operating systems may require an the operating system installation CD.

For MS SQL (2008 version), the installation of SP1 is required. Fundamental errors can occur in MS SQL without the SP1 when queries are processed for HELIOS Orange.

Operating System

HELIOS Orange can run on both the 32- and 64-bit environments of Windows. This is true for both the client and the server components (i.e. for Helios.exe and MS SQL server)

HW going virtual. Both HELIOS Orange and the MS SQL Server can run through various virtual technology. Experience with going virtual has been very good so far on the following systems:

No matter where or how HELIOS Orange runs, regular updates of the MS SQL server and the operating systems are recommended (and sometimes even required).
